HELP - What Computer Should I Buy?

Lets keep this a simple list that doesn't go into a bunch of technical mumbo jumbo. Oh yeah, my qualifications to recommend this to you is that I am a computer scientist and I help people all the time who ask me what kind of computer should I buy. So far I have a 100% satisfaction rate and mostly because most everyone has bought a junky computer that they paid too much for before. I don't get commission but I highly recommend Dell computers, they are definitely the best and actually turn out the be the same or cheaper than store computers.

  1. If you have a choice between a lower model and a higher model and the difference is $100 then go for the higher model. The extra $100 will get you at least 2 years more out of that computer.

  2. Buy the main popular chip out there. For example today that would be the Core 2 Duo and NOT the Celeron or Duron. The difference is that the good ones will last most users 4 or 5 years and not a year or two like the others.

  3. Get a minimum of 1 GB of memory - this helps when you are actually running the programs especially the memory hungry Vista.

  4. With hard drives as cheap as they are nowadays, get 160 GB or more. This is especially helpful if you are going to store a lot of music and photos.

  5. Do a Google search while you're at it for "Dell Desktop Deals" or "Dell Laptop Deals" and you will find sites that compile the best deals our there on a daily basis. I was able to price a great system just now for $479.
Stay tuned next time for how to setup your computer so it doesn't get the viruses or junk that usually infect your computer within a month.
