Tuesdays With Morrie

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom

In this memoir, Mitch Albom shares how his favorite teacher, Professor Morrie Schwartz, taught and inspired him to enjoy every moment of life—from one’s birth to one’s death. As Morrie becomes physically weak with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and inescapably comes near to dying, he teaches Albom one of the most important lessons in life. Albom spends a short time of only fourteen Tuesdays with Morrie, but he creates an enlightening chronicle where every page is filled with Morrie’s delightful humor, profound advice, and thought-provoking words of wisdom. Morrie is a true “teacher to the last” (134) who has the power to motivate others, and his every word gives inspiration to all. Morrie says, “The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning” (43). Albom sincerely portrays Morrie in his last months, and his memoir reminds us all that a meaningful life is a fulfilling, rich, and joyful life.

Happy reading!

Vegetable Samosas

Ingredients:
Potatoes
Green Peas
Mustard seeds
Curry leaves (Kari Patta) - optional
Finely minced serano peppers
Salt, sugar, ground cumin and turmeric powder
Lemon juice or limes
Spring Roll Pastry package
Vegetable oil

Preparations:
Boil 3-4 potatoes and half a cup of frozen peas until they are baked through completely (for 1 package of SPRING ROLL PASTRY you will need about 3-4 medium sized potatoes and half a cup of peas). Peel the potatoes and smash them into tiny pieces in a large mixing bowl. Mix in the cooked peas. Now add salt to taste, 2 tsp of sugar, 2 tsp of cumin powder and juice of one lime. Don't mix it in yet.
Then, take 2-3 tbsp of vegetable oil in a pan over medium high heat. To it, add 1 tbsp of mustard seeds. Let the mustard seeds get a little hot, then add 1 tbsp of turmeric powder and 6-7 curry leaves and heat for a minute until the aroma of turmeric begins to come out. Then remove the pan from the heat and pour the oil mixture over the potatoes with mustard seeds, curry leaves and turmeric powder. Add some chopped cilantro, chopped serano peppers and mix well. Follow the "HOW TO FOLD SAMOSA" recipe to prepare the samosas. Deep fry the samosas on medium-low heat in vegetable oil or store them in ziploc bags in the freezer for later use. Enjoy!!!
